In 2011, we introduced a new type of x-ray curtain to the packaging industry, which was compliant with direct food contact regulations under FDA regulation 21 CFR 177.2600 (e) and (f). This was the only x-ray curtain available to meet this designation, which is of primary importance for any food manufacturing facility which requires x-ray inspection.
Updated regulations in the European Union created the need for an improved product which would meet similar guidelines under regulation (EC) 1935/2004. The regulations required a slightly different formulation than employed for the US FDA compliance, so a new product was developed. Available in 0.125 mm and 0.25 mm Pb equivalencies, these lead free curtains comply with the most stringent European Union requirements for direct food contact.
X-ray Curtain Shields for use on food scanners in direct contact with food. Lead-free shielding equivalent of 0.25 mm Pb has been obtained through replacing Lead with other suitable metals.
By applying a special PTFE coating, a high level of slippage and abrasion resistance of the surface is achieved. A thin polymer matrix in the center increases the pull out strength of the material, allowing it to be used even in cases where heavy product is being inspected.
