X-ray curtain shields are of critical importance to the safe operation of a X-ray Scanner. Proper protection from x-ray radiation keeps food packaging workers safe while ensuring compliance with radiation regulations. Our x-ray curtain shielding is lead free, as use of lead curtains in food manufacturing facilities is not acceptable. Choosing the right x-ray curtain will also ensure long life, with minimal wear while eliminating issues with product hold-up or jams.

Lead-Free Vinyl X-ray Curtains

The vinyl curtain is the most common product used on packaged food scanners. Factory installed X-Ray curtains for X-Ray scanners are typically Light Blue or Black in color. The vinyl coating makes the shielding easy to clean and provides durability for applications where constant abrasion is seen. We carry all radiation shielding materials used on x-ray scanners in the food industry. The most common protection levels at 0.125 mm Pb, 0.25 mm Pb and 0.35 mm Pb. If your food scanner is equipped with low-cost vinyl x-ray curtains, you can easily determine the material protection level by measuring the thickness.

0.125 mm Pb Equivalent 1.0 mm thick 185 grams/ft²

0,250 mm Pb Equivalent 1.4 mm thick 325 grams/ft²

0.350 mm Pb Equivalent 1.8 mm thick 435 grams/ft²

"Ultralight" UHMW Coated Lead-Free Rubber (Black/Brown)

These lightweight x-ray curtains are perfect for x-ray systems processing lightweight pouches, cartons, or cups where normal curtains would cause the product to catch or stack up on the conveyor belt. The Ultralight curtains are often used in applications where product spacing is critical, especially upstream of a check-weigher. The UHMW on the product contact side also increases lifespan in higher wear applications.

FDA & EU Compliant Lead-Free Rubber (Black) for Raw Food Contact

These x-ray curtain materials have been specifically developed for factories where raw food may come in contact with the product. The materials are compliant with either (1) US FDA requirements specified under 21 CFR 177.600 (e) and 177.2600 (f) for use in food contact applications, or (2) EU regulation (EC) 1935/2004. A reduction in surface friction and abrasion resistance is achieved by applying a special coating. To increase the tear resistance, polymer threads are encapsulated in the rubber. Materials are available in 0.125 mm Pb and 0.25 mm Pb equivalents.

USDA & 3A Compliant Lead-Free Rubber (Blue)

Our newest materials are FDA compliant and allow us to provide curtains which comply with the strict sanitary regulations in USDA regulated facilities, specifically in meat and dairy processing plants. The custom cut curtains will meet sanitation best practices, specified under the USDA Guidelines for the Sanitary Design and Fabrication of Dairy Processing Equipment, part G11. These curtains have also been certified to comply with 3‐A Sanitary Standards for Multiple‐Use Rubber and Rubber‐Like Materials Used as Product Contact Surfaces in Dairy Equipment. Materials are available in 0.125 mm Pb and 0.25 mm Pb equivalents.
